一、教学对象
本课程适用于非英语专业文理等本科二年级的学生，特别是希望在四级英语听力以及新闻听力方面得到进一步提升的学生。
二、教学目的
《英语新闻精听精炼》主要是针对非英语专业文理等本科二年级的学生而开设的后续课程。本课程旨在通过系统的泛听、精听VOA、BBC、CNN新闻报道中的热点新闻，以“国际热点秀”、“科技最前沿”、“财经最视点”等专题形式呈献给学生，帮助学生掌握听前预测、辨认特定信息、准确理解以及推理等听力技巧，进一步提高学生的听力水平；此外，本课程还着重通过培养学生自主学习能力、合作学习能力，使他们学会品鉴外国文化精华，开拓国际视野，提高自身人文素养和跨文化意识，形成正确的情感和认知态度，适应社会发展和经济建设的需要。
三、教学内容
本课程精心挑选了VOA、BBC、CNN英语新闻近期的各类热点新闻，内容包罗万象，涵盖政治、经济、科学、健康、军事、时事、文化及生活等各方面。

四、教学方法
课程主要采用以下教学方法：
1）精听和泛听相结合：根据课堂上新闻英语和影视英语中不同的听力任务和听力材料，采用不同的听力方法。
2）课堂讨论并实践：引导学生根据所学音频或视频内容做积极、有效的讨论，并在课堂上加以展示。
3）文化教学法和情感教学法：课堂上教师有意识的输入文化，在学生在了解文化的基础上提高语言的综合运用能力；并努力创造生动、活泼的英语学习环境。
五、考核方法
本课程的考核包括以下内容：
课堂出勤情况及表现(主要指课堂小组讨论、小组对话以及个人发言情况)、期末听力测试。考核采用百分制形式，具体分值如下：
1）课堂到课率及表现30分；
2）小组讨论30分；
3）听力测试40分。
